The Different Types of Psoriasis

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a condition that affects the skin. Normally, new skin cells rise up the surface after their underneath. The old cells that were already on the surface fall off. If a person has psoriasis, these new skin cells develop and rise quickly, leaving no time for the old cells to fall off. As a result, they build up on the surface, form scales, and become itchy.

Psoriasis has different types. Check out what these types are.

Plaque Psoriasis

Among the different types of psoriasis, plaque psoriasis is the most common. With this type, the person will find dry, raised red lesions or plaques on the scalp as well as other body parts such as the elbows, knees and even the genitals. These plaques can be very itchy.

Inverse Psoriasis

A fungal infection may trigger inverse psoriasis. This type of psoriasis can cause red, inflamed skin patches in your groin, under the breasts or armpits and even the skinfolds around genitals. Sweating as well as friction can make this condition worse.

Guttate Psoriasis

Children and young adults are often the targets of guttate psoriasis. Small pink spots typically appear on the skin of the arms, torso, and legs. Having a strep throat or other bacterial infection can trigger an episode of guttate psoriasis.

Nail Psoriasis

This type causes the nail to break or crumble. It also causes an abnormality in the growth of fingernails or toenails as well as discoloration.

Pustular Psoriasis

Adults are the most often victims of pustular psoriasis. This type causes white blisters that are filled with pus as well as red, inflamed patches on the hands, feet and other body parts.

Erythrodermic Psoriasis

This rare type of psoriasis causes red itchy rash covering the whole body.
